Our Fujifilm Best Camera Picks for 2022
Fujifilm recently introduced their hi-end, medium-format GFX 100S camera, a step up from their smaller APS-C cameras.
It adds to their already hugely successful range of Instax film cameras, accessories, and photo-printers. Given how many Fuji options photographers now have, we thought we'd help our readers by providing an overview of Fuji's best 2021 cameras.
If you're in the market for a new APS-C mirrorless, take a good look at Fujifilm's range, which offers various price points. While we've not tried all of these models we list, we have carefully researched them. We have years of Fuji and photography experience. We hope you will find this information helpful.
Below, we highlight two APS-C mirrorless range, two GFX medium-format and one compact.
the Best APS-C Fujifilm Mirrorless Cameras
Mirrorless cameras, not DSLRs, have always been their focus. While their closest competitors have been focused on full-frame cameras, Fujifilm has only ever focused on mirrorless APS-C cameras. We think this focus gives them a competitive edge in this space. It allows them to produce what is probably the best (and most extensive) range of APS-C mirrorless cameras and lenses.
Fujifilm X-T4
There's a good argument to make that the flagship of the X-series, the Fujifilm X-T4, is the best APS-C mirrorless camera available today. It starts with the latest and best of Fujifilm technology. Both still and video photographers will love this camera for all it has to offer. Its improvements include a faster and quieter shutter, in-body image stabilization, excellent battery life, and improved continuous AF. If you're a videographer, this is still the best option for you with its 4K/60p and 1080/240p modes and 10-bit internal recording.
Verdict: We are all in for the Fujifilm X-74.
Key Specs:
26 megapixel APS-C X-Trans sensor
6.5 stops of IBIS
1080/240p video
4K/60p video
30fps burst shooting
Pros:
Excellent stabilisation system
Best X-series video
Greatly improved battery life
Cons:
Expensive
Fujifilm X-S10
The specs of the X-S10 are very similar to the X-T4. The difference between the two models is three missing features: the 4K/60p mode, the 15fps burst shooting with a mechanical shutter, and the weather-sealing. As a result, the good news is that it has a lower price point! Another critical difference is with the manual controls. They've been swapped out for a design that looks more like that of a traditional DSLR's PASM dial.
Verdict: The X-S10 offers most of the X-T4's core features at a lower price point.
Key Specs:
26 megapixel APS-C X-Trans sensor
3-inch touchscreen
Pop-up Flash
4K/30p video recording
30fps burst shooting
Pros:
Same core features as the X-T4
Smaller camera
Less expensive than the X-T4
Cons:
Redesign of traditional Fuji manual controls
No 4K/60p mode
the Best Fujifilm Medium Format Cameras
Fujifilm builds medium-format cameras rather than full-frames. As we said, we think that gives them a competitive edge in this space. Their medium-format sensor promises more megapixels, better low-light execution, and greater depth of field. (It's thanks to a sensor that's 1.7x bigger than a 35mm sensor. ) That's not all the good news. With the new GFX 100S, these cameras are now smaller than ever.
There are two 100-megapixel models, the GFX 100 and GFX 100S, and two 50-megapixel models, the GFX 50S and GFX 50R. We've picked one from each to highlight.
Fujifilm GFX 100S
The GFX100S is smaller, cheaper, and lighter than the flagship GFX 100 model. It also has nearly all of the same features, image quality, and performance, making it a very appealing camera and our pick. Thanks to its compact size, it's an especially appealing camera - if you plan on hauling it around outside of the studio.
It comes with an improved IBIS system (worth up to 6 stops) and the same AF system. It's also weather-resistance, offers 5fps burst shooting and 4K/30p video recording. Lastly, it's about 40-percent cheaper than the GFX 100!
Verdict: If size, features, and price matter, you can't beat the GFX100S.
Key Specs:
100-megapixel medium-format sensor
5-axis image stabilisation
3.69 million dots fixed EVF
5fps continuous shooting
4K/30p video
Pros:
Great price for its features
Very effective IBIS
Excellent AF system
Cons:
No battery grip option
Fujifilm GFX 50R
We've picked the GFX 50R in large part because its great pricing puts it more on par with a high-end full-frame. It's also lighter, smaller, and easier to use than its rivals. Aside from the size and usability of the 50R, the image quality is terrific.
Verdict: On the whole, this camera can't be beaten in its category.
Key Specs:
50-megapixels
3fps burst shooting
X-Processor Pro
1080/30p video
Tilting LCD screen
Pros:
Compact design we love
Exceptional-quality stills
Cons:
Only 1080p video
Fixed viewfinder
the Best Fujifilm Compact Camera
When it comes to its compact cameras, Fujifilm seems to be directing its attention to creating premium compact cameras.
Fujifilm FinePix XP140
When it came to selecting a high-quality compact camera, we decided on the XP140. It's not just small; it's rugged and capable of taking the wear and tear that can come from using a compact camera. It's also very reasonably priced.
Although Fujifilm is clearly devoting a lot of attention to building decent compacts, it hasn't lost its sense of design fun. This is a brightly colored camera that can handle what you throw at it when hauling it around. It offers good image quality thanks to its 16.4 megapixels back-illuminated CMOS sensor.
Verdict: This well-priced compact is rugged and takes good pictures.
Key Specs:
Water, freeze, dust, and shockproof
16 megapixels
5x zoom lens
4K/30p video
Pros:
Good value/price
good, responsive performance
Cons:
Not many features
Same design as previous models
