Instructions for Creating Magnificent Digital Photographs

Digital photography - this sounds more complicated than it really is. We will explain to you the basic techniques, such as frame composition, and also talk about some tricks of professionals. Thanks to our tips, you will master digital photography, and your pictures will become even better.

As often happens in digital photography: the ideal camera is perfectly tuned, the object seems interesting to you, but the audience yawns. One of the reasons why technically flawless digital photos don’t inspire viewers at all is the lack of composition. From this article, you will learn a few simple rules on how to create something interesting in any situation.

Let’s say that you have already mastered two aspects of digital photography: you have found a suitable camera and know how to handle it. And in this article, we will reveal to you several secrets of professional photographers on how to create interesting photos.

1. Rule of thirds

This is the easiest but at the same time, the effective rule for creating interesting photos: the rule of thirds. If you take a picture of a tree against a sunset, while placing the tree right in the center of the frame, then later you will be disappointed to see that such a photo causes only boredom.

According to the rule of thirds, you need to mentally divide the frame into nine equal sections, conditionally drawing two vertical and two horizontal lines that will create a grid. With most cameras, you can activate a grid in the viewfinder that divides the frame according to the rule of thirds. The target of the photograph should be located on one of the resulting four intersection points, and you will see the photograph will become much more attractive.

Thus, the elements of the image will be arranged according to the golden ratio, which creates an aesthetic effect for the eyes. This rule also applies to portraits: the eyes of a model should be located at the level of one of the lines dividing the frame into segments - this will help to create an interesting composition.  But what if you like to take photographs and want to impress your girlfriend? Well, after reading this article, be sure to check out these first date tips.

2. Leave free space on the photo correctly

The rule of thirds can be used to achieve another artistic effect. To do this, you must correctly leave free space on the photo. If the picture shows where the views of people or animals are directed, then in the overall composition, it is best to leave free space in the direction your models are looking. Do not crop the image on the face of the object on the side it is facing.

The same rule applies to shoot moving objects: leave free space in front of a moving object. The image of the rider on the right seems more interesting if you place it on the photo on the right so that the viewer understands where he is going. A shepherd on a sunset background looks more impressive if you show his future path, leaving a space in front of him.

3. Quantity matters

A funny rule also works with object photography: psychologically, people like things more than anything else, especially food, when there is an odd number of them in the photograph. A photograph of flowers looks especially attractive when the main object, for example, a rose, is depicted with at least two, four, or six tulips, that is, the total number of objects remains odd.

The reason for this is that for the human brain to find pairs and symmetry in such photographs is a difficult task, and therefore, the image is perceived as interesting. You can use this trick when shooting group portraits, landscapes, and architecture.

4. Learn from animals

Is there nothing special in your photo again? Try changing the camera angles. For example, an object shot from the so-called “birds-eye perspective” or “frog perspective,” that is, from above or from below, looks much more interesting. Lift the camera with a tripod up and take a photo with a wide-angle lens. Or try the opposite: place the camera below, so even familiar works of architecture and tall buildings will look unexpectedly interesting due to the unusual perspective.

5. Experience, Experience & Experience

Having mastered the principles of digital photography presented here, you will someday notice that they can be completely violated. Someday, you will have to do this to give your photos a touch of personality, so to speak, to create your signature on the photo as a photographer. All that is needed to achieve this is to take photographs and photographs using the equipment you have simply.

In front of a computer screen, more than one photographer has not become a master. Get inspired by new ideas from the Internet and our tips, and don’t be afraid to try something new. Everything can be learned.
